As part of its efforts to reach out to the less fortunate, since 2005, under the umbrella of the National Electricity Market of Singapore (NEMS) Group, PowerSeraya and its staff have supported the annual "Very Special Walk" organised to raise funds for the Pathlight School. The funds raised are primarily used to organise projects that integrate students with autism into mainstream society.

In another joint programme with NEMS, PowerSeraya staff volunteers also help out in a special annual outing organised for Child@Street 11, a non-profit organisation which helps young children from low-income and dysfunctional families. Outings organised fpr these children have included trips to the Science Centre, the Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom in Sentosa and Singapore Zoological Gardens.

Metta Welfare Group

In its bi-annual Family Day 2009 event, PowerSeraya invited members and families of the Metta Welfare Group to join its staff for a day of fun and bonding. Some staff volunteered their time on that day to accompany the 27 Metta Welfare Group members and family members to ensure that they had a good time. As their appreciation for the invitation, two of the Metta Welfare Group representatives presented handmade tokens to our CEO Mr. John Ng.

Staff Contributions to the Needy

PowerSeraya subscribes to the SHARE (Social Help and Assistance Raised by Employees) programme which is an avenue for employees to make contributions to the Community Chest on a monthly basis through a fixed deduction from their salary. The company's support for the SHARE programme saw PowerSeraya being awarded the Bronze SHARE award in recognition of the regular monthly contributions by our employees through the SHARE programme. In FY07/08, the company increased the number of SHARE contributors and amount of contributions by about 18 % and 39% respectively as compared to the previous FY.

In response to the Cyclone Nargis and Sichuan Earthquake disasters in May 2008, the company organised an internal donation drive to raise money for the relief efforts of the twin disasters. Under the company's dollar-for-dollar matching initiative, the company raised close to S$18,000. With assistance from the Singapore Red Cross Society, the amount collected was chanelled to the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) and Myanmar through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Subsequently in 2009, another similar donation drive was organised and close to $10,000 was raised for victims of Typhoon Ketsana and Padang Earthquake. The amount collected was channeled to the disasters relief efforts through Red Cross Society.
